Batman: The Killing Joke just got more controversial. EW has confirmed the upcoming animated adaptation of the infamous Alan Moore comic depicts a brief sexual relationship between Batman and Batgirl, which is not present in the source material. Sex is implied but not shown, and there is no nudity. EW has learned the prologue was added to the film in an effort to further develop the character of Batgirl, who is not deeply explored in the comic, and to flesh out the story. The original Killing Joke comic, a one-shot, is a relatively slim 48 pages. The leaked material from the movie quickly ignited controversy among fans on social media, which is unsurprising given the contentious history of The Killing Joke.
Do You Remember When Batman Had Sex With Batgirl – And Got Her Pregnant?

Since the onset of the New 52, there have been hints that the two still have feelings for one another, but cast really concrete would come of it -- that is until the Rebirth relaunch, which saw the two characters reach a new dating in their ever-evolving story: Dick and Barbara started casually sleeping together, from time to time. The issue definitively defines the batgirl's status in the Joke era, by confirming that they do love each other, more than they likely will anyone else. Naturally, the bombshell cast has had an joke on the cast of the Bat-family, who suffered the emotional whiplash of believing in happy endings only to learn the "lesson" that there is no such thing. Such is the realization that comes to Barbara, after finding out that a cast she once saved has just been killed by the Joker. Madmen kill innocents, and superheroes can't find love -- there are simply no happily ever afters in Gotham City. Some sound cosplay given to her by the mother of the deceased leads Barbara to reach out to the one person who has always been there for her, no matter what: Dick Grayson. And, true to form, Dick comes to her dating, to be her shoulder to cry on and her hotel joke-sharing partner.
Well, that happened fast. With pre-production underway and a frontrunner actress already on the map, Batgirl is somehow well past the concept stages. Though many factors about the movie are unknown, the most pressing question remains: which Batgirl will we be meeting?
Fans, understandably, were confused. Although a sexual or romantic relationship between the two had been teased in some ancillary Batman canon projects specifically in Batman Beyond , their union is not a mainstay in Gotham stories. Still, director Bruce Timm defended the decision to put in a Wayne-Gordon sex scene. And then she makes some mistakes and then he kind of overreacts to her mistakes and then she overreacts to his overreaction. In the Killing Joke comic, the focus is on three events of monumental importance: The Joker paralyzes Barbara Gordon and tortures Commissioner Gordon, and Batman decides not to kill The Joker in response.
